In this review, we are going to take a thorough look at the Express Water RO5DX reverse osmosis water filter system – a great choice if you are on a tight budget. The system uses a 5-stage filtration process to filter over 100 different contaminants and provide delicious, healthy drinking water.
The pressure at which this system can operate is between 40 and 80 psi. You don’t want to go above or below that range to ensure that the system functions as intended.
Here’s a video from the manufacturer introducing the system:
What we like about the RO5DX is that it produces up to 50 gallons of pure H2O a day. This in combination with the large storage tank guarantees that your family has unlimited access to clean drinking water at all times.
And it doesn’t matter if you are on city or well water – or even want to use the system in your RV – you can always enjoy a relatively fast water flow.
The emergency leak stop detector brings peace of mind. It’ll shut off the water flow whenever it detects moisture.
Express Water promotes the RO5DX by saying that there is no need to “waste money on professional installation – Our quick and easy to understand design means you can install and understand everything about your system “.
Quite frankly, we believe this to be only partly true.
On the one hand, we have a detailed instruction booklet that even offers colored illustrations and diagrams to aid you in the installation process. What’s more, we have a color matched quick connect system that tells you what hose goes where at a glance. Plus each connection that needs to be made is labeled on the unit itself.
On the other hand, we heard from a handful of customers that they experienced problems during the install, due to the “poor manual” with unclear directions and too many separate system components.
All in all, in our opinion, if you have the patience that’s required to set up this system, there’s no need to call for a plumber. Just don’t underestimate the scope of the project.
By the way, all adapters are included, so there’s no need for you to visit to the local hardware store.
We would usually provide our readers with a helpful installation video at this point, however, we couldn’t find one that features the Express Water RO5DX – sorry for that!
Not much to say here. Filter changes are quick and easy. You can use the extra wrench to open the housings. But make sure to have a bucket at hand to prevent water spilling all over the floor.
Here’s how often you will have to change each filtration component as per manufacturer specifications:
The good news is that you can get them at Walmart, Home Depot and a handful of other big retail stores located near you.
Replacement costs add up to about $70 per year. If you buy in bulk, you can get a full set of filters + RO membrane for as little as $35, which is incredibly cheap. And don’t forget that one set of replacement filters is already included in the package!
Here is what we don’t like:
If you are on a budget, if you finally want to get access to clean drinking water, and if you want to save money with filter replacements, this RO filter system is it. Just be prepared to call for help when it comes to setting up the unit or fumble for a while to seal potential leaks.
Our verdict: 4.5 out of 5 stars!
