Kind Water Systems E-1000 – Key Features
The Kind E-1000 is a solid contender in the cartridge-based whole house water filter niche as it provides thorough contaminant removal while costing significantly less than almost all tank-based systems.
Keep in mind the system is suited towards removing the most common contaminants found in city water – chlorine, chloramine, organic chemicals, and sediment. It’s not designed to remove pollutants like arsenic, fluoride, manganese, or iron.
The system features a 5-micron sediment pre-filter designed to remove sand, silt, rust, dirt, and other debris, as well as a catalytic carbon block filter stage for removing chlorine, chloramine, herbicides, pesticides, industrial solvents, VOCs, and more.
15-gallon per minute flow rate is ideal even for larger homes with up to 6 bathrooms.
Replacement filters are affordable and come in the standard 20” x 4.5″ big blue cartridge size, so going off-brand is an option.

As the system uses catalytic carbon instead of regular activated carbon, it’s capable of removing chloramine in addition to chlorine. What Contaminants Are Being Removed?
The sediment filter will remove sand, silt, rust, and other solids down to 5 microns. This stage will not only protect the carbon filter from clogging, but it will also extend the life of other water-using appliances in your home like dishwashers and water heaters.
The catalytic carbon will adsorb chlorine taste and odor, chloramine, herbicides, pesticides, industrial solvents, VOCs, PFAS, THMs, HAAs, and other organics.

Installation
Installation of the E-1000 is fairly straightforward as far as whole house filter systems are concerned. The system comes with the necessary mounting bracket, mounting hardware, spanner wrench, and silicone lubricant. What we miss is a bypass valve.
Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.
Tool and materials needed:
- Plumber‘s tape
- Thread sealant
- Pipe cutters
- Adjustable wrench
- 2x Hose spigot
- Plumbing connection hardware (as needed)
To install the system:
- Open the package and count all items before beginning installation.
- Determine the location and water flow direction for the system.
- Shut off the main water supply line to the home.
- Open the closest faucet and leave it open until it drains.
- Install the mounting bracket horizontally to the wall studs or to cement using the included fasteners. You may need to drill pilot holes.
- Once the mounting bracket is mounted and level, remove the cartridge housings from the cover manifold and install the manifold to the mounting bracket lining up the inlet and outlet side correctly. Use stainless steel machine bolts and washers to secure.
- Lubricate each O-ring with a small quantity of silicone lubricant. Thread the housings back onto their corresponding cover in a counter-clockwise direction. Tighten the housings using the included filter wrench, being careful not to overtighten.
- Adapt the plumbing connections as needed to the system inlet and outlet. This will differ depending on the installation type and your piping material. Installing a shutoff valve prior to the system as well as a bypass is recommended.
- Slowly turn on the main water supply to fill the housings.
- Allow the open faucet to run for 10 mins to flush the system.
- Turn off the faucet and check for leaks.

Maintenance
With the Kind E-1000 whole house water filter, the only regular maintenance required is replacing the filter elements every 12 months. The exact replacement frequency will depend on the water quality.
To replace a filter cartridge:
- Shut off the main water supply to your home.
- Open the nearest faucet and leave it open.
- Use the included filter wrench on the cartridge housing to turn clockwise and loosen it.
- Remove and discard the old O-ring and cartridge.
- Unwrap and install a new cartridge, ensuring the filter centers on the standpipe.
- Install a new O-ring and apply a small amount of silicone food-grade lubricant.
- Reinstall the housing cartridge counter-clockwise and tighten it – being careful not to overtighten.
- Turn the main water supply on slowly to allow the system to fill which will cause air to be expelled from the open faucet.
- Run the water at the nearest cold-water faucet for 10 minutes to flush the system.
- Close the faucet and check for leaks.

Kind Whole House Filter Cons
The system has few major drawbacks and is generally very well reviewed. One obvious drawback is the lack of a bypass valve included in the bundle. This would be nice to have, but it’s by no means a deal breaker.

Overall the Kind water filtration system would make an excellent option as a cartridge-based whole house filter for municipal water. It also costs significantly less than most tank-based systems, making it best for when budget is a contributing factor.
Being cartridge-based, filter elements must be replaced on an annual basis which adds to the cost, but this also keeps filtration performance at its peak.

The Springwell CF is a whole house tank-based filter system with three types of media.
- First, a 5-micron sediment pre-filter traps dirt, sand, and other large particles.
- Next, KDF removes chlorine and heavy metals and inhibits the growth of microorganisms.
- Lastly, granular catalytic carbon removes chlorine, chloramine, pesticides, TTHMS, and other organic contaminants.
The SpringWell system will deliver between 9 and 20 gallons per minute of flow rate, depending on the unit size selected.
Comparing the two systems doesn’t result in a clear-cut winner. The SpringWell costs significantly more upfront, but as filter replacements aren’t required, this evens out over time. Additionally, while the SpringWell has KDF filter media to remove heavy metals, this often isn’t necessary for municipal water treatment.
Ultimately, the decision comes down to personal preference – do you prefer a tank-based system or one working with filter cartridges?
