Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection – Key Features

Okay, so how exactly does the Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection Reverse Osmosis System work? Well, we have 9 filter stages in total:

It uses a 5-micron sediment pre-filter, a 5-micron KDF-85 + coconut shell catalytic carbon pre-filter, a DOW FILMTEC reverse osmosis membrane, an ultraviolet light, and finally a 5-micron coconut shell granular activated carbon + remineralization filter to remove/reduce the following water contaminants among others:

  • Sediment, dust, rust, etc.
  • Cloudiness, taste, odor
  • Arsenic-5
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium-6
  • Copper
  • Fluoride
  • Lead
  • Nitrates
  • Radium 226/228
  • Chlorine & chloramines
  • Dissolved iron
  • Hydrogen sulfide
  • Dozens of organic chemicals and compounds including pesticides

What’s more, up to 99.99% of viruses, bacteria, mold, and other living microorganisms are rendered harmless due to the UV stage.

On top of that, the remineralizer releases calcium and magnesium ions before and after the storage tank (restores 30-60 ppm). This makes the water slightly alkaline and improves its taste. Plus, it prevents storage tank degradation. By the way, the remineralization process is also why your TDS meter won’t read “0” when testing the filtered water.

All in all, this looks like a pretty solid approach to RO water treatment, and it’s above what most other companies do to ensure broad contaminant removal.

Another key feature of the Home Master HydroPerfection RO system is the non-electric permeate pump. It reduces water waste by up to 80%, from 4 gallons wasted for every gallon of filtered water down to 1. But not only that, it also increases the system’s daily water production capacity by up to 50%, and even provides slightly cleaner water. Thus, you can be rest assured that you’ll have enough filtered water whenever you need it – small or large family doesn’t matter. And, of course, less water flowing down the drain is better for the environment and helps to lower your water bill.

Speaking of flow, the fast flow kit which is included in the package nearly doubles the flow rate from the RO faucet by using larger tubing, fittings, etc. One glass fills in less than 5 seconds.

Filter life is 1 year or 2,000 gallons, whichever comes first. The RO membrane lasts 3-5 years.

Optional upgrades:

  • Lots of different faucet to choose from (most come at extra cost)
  • Smaller/larger reserve tank
  • Antimicrobial tubing
  • 75 gpd membrane
  • Refrigerator connection kit
  • Garbage disposal drain adapter

Home Master HydroPerfection Pros

What are some of the pros of the Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection that make the system stand out from other, similar models?

  • For one, filters are made in USA.
  • What’s more, the UV light stage uses a cold sterilization chamber. This means is it won’t heat the water.
  • And because we also have a KDF-85 filter stage, this Home Master RO model is suited for well water with dissolved iron.
  • As mentioned before, the water flows through the remineralization filter twice – before and after the storage tank. This means more mineral content will be added, and it prevents tank degradation.
  • Of course, all components are BPA and lead-free.
  • And finally, quick-connect fittings allow for swift installation and annual maintenance. Also, the modular filters can be replaced without tools – easy. The modular design also prevents flooding (modular meaning that whenever you change the filters/membrane you dispose of the entire housings which tend to wear out over time), and bacteria and mold have no chance to accumulate.

Did we mention that Home Master reverse osmosis systems are backed by outstanding customer feedback, a 5-year limited warranty, as well as a 30-day satisfaction guarantee?

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

This system removes particles, dust, rust, taste, odor, murkiness, arsenic-5, chromium-6, cadmium, copper, fluoride, lead, nitrates, chlorine & chloramines, radium 226/228, dissolved iron, hydrogen sulfide, organic chemicals, organic compounds, viruses, bacteria, and other microbes (among other things).

Installation

Do you need a plumber to do the system installation for you? Not necessarily, unless you don’t feel comfortable drilling a hole for the extra RO faucet into your countertop or kitchen sink, and another one into the drain line. Other than that, the Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection was designed for DIY install with quick-connect fittings, color-coded tubing, detailed installation instructions (incl. video), and professional live support.

Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.

Assemble these tools to get started:

  • Protective eyewear
  • Philips screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Marker
  • Variable power drill
  • 1” carbide hole saw
  • Average-sized pliers
  • Regular household bleach
  • Towels
  • Scissors

Then, follow these steps to install:

  1. Fix the RO faucet to the second hole in your sink. If there’s none, drill a 1” hole in your sink.
  2. Connect the EZ adapter to your cold water supply. Make sure there are no leaks after the connection.
  3. Mount the drain saddle clamp (or garbage disposal drain adapter).
  4. Install the main Home Master RO. Make sure you mount the system vertically.
  5. If you choose to use the permeate pump, mount it beside the Home Master RO. Make sure the arrow on the pump faces upward.
  6. Attach the product label to the reserve tank.
  7. Now, install the tank, ensuring that the shut-off valve stays closed after installation. Avoid over-tightening the shut-off valve.
  8. Attach the orange, red, black, and blue tubing to the IN line, drain, reserve tank, and RO faucet respectively.
  9. Close all valves, then open the main angle-stop valve and EZ ball valve to pressurize the system.
  10. Dry the units and inspect for leaks.
  11. Fill and flush the system twice or more and you’re all done!

Maintenance

The long-lasting filters are rated at 2,000 gallons or a full year, whichever comes first. The UV bulb should also last 1 year. The RO membrane is good for 3-5 years. In other words, system maintenance is required no more than once per year so that you can spend your free time doing something more enjoyable.

And again, the push fittings make the whole process much less of a headache. Also, all components are very exposed for accessibility. The modular filter design means you dispose of the housing, too, preventing germs from accumulating and eventual leakage.

Annual cost? About $150 which seems reasonable when you consider how sophisticated the filtration process is.

Please note: Actual filter replacement frequency highly depends on your water usage and source water quality.

To replace old filters:

  1. Turn off the feed water.
  2. Turn off the reserve tank valve and drain water from the system.
  3. Slowly unmount the Home Master RO.
  4. Detach tubing from the old filters.
  5. Fix tubing to each of the new filters.
  6. Dispose of the old filters.
  7. Mount the system back and gently reopen the main water supply.
  8. Gently open the tank valve.
  9. Turn off the RO sink valve and let the tank refill for three hours.
  10. Fill and drain the water twice before you resume use.

NSF and Other Certifications

The Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection has an NSF standard 58 certification. This one has nothing to do with contaminant removal, however. It confirms that the system meets material and structural integrity requirements.

Earlier Product Versions

This system has no earlier product versions.

Home Master TMHP Cons

Certainly the biggest con is the initial price tag. About $500 is not exactly what most people would consider a bargain.

Plus, the majority of people say the install is easy and straightforward. However, a few had difficulties, especially when trying to connect the faucet.

Personally, we would have liked testing/certification against NSF standards for contaminant reduction. There is a certification against NSF 58 but only for material and structural integrity.

And because the filters and all other components are so exposed, they tend to clutter kitchen sink cabinets more than with RO systems that combine everything in a single module. We also found complaints about the filter quality dropping rapidly after a relatively short time.

Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection Review: Our Verdict + Best for

Highly purified alkaline drinking water that tastes great and fills a whole pitcher in no time, reduced water wastage, and 5 years manufacturer warranty are 3 good reasons to invest your money in the Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection Reverse Osmosis System. And there are several more.

Be aware, though, that these benefits don’t come for free. The Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection is only for people willing to pay the higher price tag – and still don’t get an NSF-certified product. Our verdict: 4 out of 5 stars!

The AquaTru is our top RO system. It is installation-free (a countertop system) and uses a four-stage filter process. No empty claims for filtration performance! This system has been tested and certified by a third party against NSF/ANSI standards 42, 53, 58, 401, and P473 — five certifications covering almost 80 contaminants! That’s outstanding and assures you of clean and safe drinking water. In comparison, the Home Master has no NSF certifications for removing contaminants.

AquaTru has been confirmed to remove:

  • 96.6% chlorine
  • 95% – 99%+ VOCs
  • 87.1% TDS
  • 97.2% chromium-6
  • 93.5% fluoride
  • 99.99% cyst
  • 99.1% lead
  • 96.4% radium 226/228
  • 99% BPA
  • 97.5% PFOA/PFOS
  • 86.7%-96.6% trace pharmaceuticals and pesticides

The AquaTru’s design is space-saving, safe (BPA and BPS-free Tritan plastic), and easy to use. It takes less than ten minutes to set it up. The system filters water quickly and has a high recovery rate of 80%, wasting only ⅕ or 20% of feed water. That’s way better than Home Master (50% waste) and the Waterdrop G3 (33% waste). The best part? The AquaTru is more budget-friendly than the Home Master, costing only $100 to $120 per year to maintain.

Any cons? We didn’t have any issues with the system, but we found customers complaining about design issues causing leaks and system breakdown after a few months.

The next one, the Waterdrop G3, is a 4-stage tankless RO filter, so it filters water on demand and saves your space. Its filtration performance is backed by NSF certifications/testing, giving it an edge over the Home Master. The Waterdrop G3 has an NSF 58 certification for TDS reduction. It has also been tested against NSF 42, 53, 58, and 401 for reducing VOCs (up to 99%), chlorine (99%), fluoride (99%), nitrate (98%), arsenic (99%), lead (99%), chromium-6 (99%), PFOA/PFOS (99%), and a few other substances.

The system increases water pressure using an internal pump. There are a couple of advantages to that. First, you’ll never run out of water even without a storage tank, because of the fast 0.42 gallon per minute flow rate. Second, it takes only 8 seconds to fill up a cup so you don’t need to wait too long for a drink. And third, it reduces wastewater to only 33% of feed water. Again, the Home Master wastes 50% of feed water.

Installing the Waterdrop G3 is just as easy as installing the Home Master. But Waterdrop has extra features like a smart spigot that uses LED lights and sound to indicate filter replacement dates, a light indicator on the RO system, a BPA-free design, and a TDS monitoring panel on the faucet and RO system. This last feature displays the current effectiveness of the RO membrane.

Waterdrop filters are also easy to replace. Removing and installing the cartridges only takes a single turn (no disconnections, tools, or valve turns). Plus, they last long enough — between 550 to 2,200 gallons or 6 to 24 months.

Finally, the company provides manufacturer assurance. They give a full refund if you’re unsatisfied with your unit within the first 30 days of purchase and offer a 1-year warranty as long as you use the filter on municipal water only. Home Master provides a 5-year warranty, so it’s better here.

Certainly the biggest con of the Waterdrop G3 is the initial price tag. Maintenance cost isn’t cheap either but acceptable.

Our conclusion? The AquaTru is our number one because of its reasonable price, fair maintenance cost, robust NSF certification, reduced wastewater, and lack of installation stress. The Waterdrop G3 is second because it’s also effective, fast, easy to install, tankless, and produces less wastewater. The Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection is good too, we just wished there would be specific contaminant reduction rates/NSF certifications.
