In this review, we take a closer look at the filtered water bottles sold by Clearly Filtered. They’re interesting because, to our knowledge, they provide for the most thorough tap water filtration in the realm of filter bottles. And the quality of the bottles themselves is outstanding, too. In other words, if you’re worried about clean drinking water when you’re outside the house or even travelling abroad, a Clearly Filtered water bottle might be just what you are looking for. Clearly Filtered Water Bottle Review – Key Features

First of all, there’re 3 types of Clearly Filtered filter water bottles:

  • Insulated stainless steel bottle – The durable stainless steel filtered water bottle is double-wall insulated to keep 20 ounces of water cold for up to 24 hours. You can choose from different colored designs.
  • Tritan bottleThis filtered water bottle is made of medical-grade, BPA-free Tritan plastic and can hold up to 24 ounces of water.
  • Borosilicate glass bottleThe glass filtered water bottle holds 20 ounces of water. It’s easier to break than the other two so it requires careful handling and is certainly not ideal for kids.

Glass Bottle

Stainless steel, Tritan or glass, none of the bottles will ever leach any harmful chemicals into your water. Instead, they use Clearly Filtered’s proprietary Affinity filtration technology (blend of activated carbon and other adsorption filter media) to remove 220+ contaminants from plain tap water. How? You simply suck the water through the integrated filter straw. Say goodbye to:

  • 99.0-99.9% fluoride
  • 99.9% chlorine and chloramines
  • 99.9% of 15+ tested herbicides
  • 99.9% lead
  • 99.9% mercury
  • 99.9% of about two dozen pharmaceuticals
  • More than 100 pesticides, volatile organic compounds (i.e. MTBE, chloroform, benzene) and semi-volatile compounds (all reduced to 99.9%)

*Tested by an independent and EPA-accredited laboratory according to NSF standards 42, 53, and 401

As you can see, the filtration is powerful enough to turn even some of the nastiest tap waters into delicious and clean drinking water without the tiniest hint of chlorine.

How much water do you get out of one filter?

Well, the filters are rated at 25 gallons or 6 months use, whichever comes first. This is how long you can expect contaminant reduction rates as they’re listed above. However, a cartridge can last for as long as 100 gallons, says the manufacturer. A good indicator that it’s time for a replacement is when the flow becomes restricted.

Clearly Filtered Water Filter Bottles Pros

All parts are 100% BPA, BPS, and phthalate-free. This prevents recontamination of the filtered water for the most pristine taste.

What’s more, the bottles and filters are built in USA and everything is covered by a lifetime guarantee.

Last but not least, there is a satisfaction guarantee which allows you to send back your product within the first 30 days after purchase in case you are not satisfied and receive a full refund, no questions asked.

Maintenance

Like we said, filters should be replaced every 25 gallons which equals 160 fill-ups for the insulated stainless steel as well as the glass water bottle and around 130 fill-ups for the Tritan version.

Speaking of replacement filters, $25 (10% off when you subscribe) per cartridge might seem a bit expensive at first, but when you consider how much bottled water costs they are not that pricey anymore. In fact, one filter will save you up to $50 and more compared to bottled water, even when bought in bulk.

One more aspect regarding maintenance: Both mouthpiece and straw need to be hand-washed and air-dried. The parts are not dishwasher-safe. The same applies to the stainless steel filtered water bottle as a whole.

Clearly Filtered Water Filter Bottles Cons

One of the few complaints is that it can be a bit hard to drink out of the bottles as you have to suck pretty strongly to get a flow going, similar to drinking a thick milkshake. Some reviewers said that, over time, this can get rather painful. The good news is that the filter should become less restrictive pretty quickly. Also, the filter went through a redesign so that now it should be much easier to get water from.

If your bottle is leaking make sure the silicone ring inside the lid is in the right position. This should solve all issues.

Although not a big deal, you have to remember to keep the bottle in an upright position to make sure the water actually flows through the filter.

Clearly Filtered Water Bottles: Our Verdict

Clearly Filtered filter water bottles grant you access to clean, safe, and great-tasting water to drink, they avoid plastic waste, and they even help you save money. They might not be the cheapest on the market but they’re the best – in terms of quality and filtration – and worth their price in our opinion.

Finding themselves drinking more water, most people love their filtered water bottle and couldn’t be happier with their purchase, also thanks to the prompt customer service. 5 stars!
