Aquasana Active Clean Water Bottle – Key Features

Aquasana’s CWB has a capacity of 17 ounces which is a bit small. Available colors: Glacier, blue, white, charcoal.

We have a silicone sleeve for protection and better grip. And we have a plastic spout for “easy dispensing” (more on this in a bit) and a carrying loop which allows you to hook the bottle to your bag, for example.

All materials are 100% BPA-free to avoid contamination. This also includes the filter housing.

Please note: Aquasana Active Clean Water Bottles are to be used with cold municipal water only!

What contaminants will be removed from your drinking water? A combination of adsorption, mechanical filtration and ion exchange take care of:

  • 99.0% bacteria
  • 99.80% lead
  • 99.99% cysts (cryptosporidium + giardia)
  • 99.40% chlorine (causes characteristic swimming pool taste and odor)

Each CWB filter cartridge lasts 80 gallons or the equivalent of 600 bottles.

CWB Pros

For one, it’s the independent third-party lab testing according to NSF Standard 42 & 53. This guarantees that the filters actually do what’s claimed, and that is removing those nasty contaminants listed above.

And while doing so, they will preserve all naturally occurring healthy minerals in your water, such as calcium and magnesium.

Lastly, each bottle is covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

Setup

What do we mean by setup? Only that you have to soak the filter for 3-5 minutes before use.

After soaking, you can simply attach the filter to the lid by pressing it firmly into position.

Now you can fill your bottle with cold tap water. But make sure to leave about 1.5″ of space to the top. Screw the lid tightly on and you are good to go – easy!

If the filter appears dry at any point re-soak it before use for optimum flow.

Maintenance

The stainless steel filter bottle is NOT dishwasher safe so you have to wash the old fashioned way with warm soap water and a brush.

Make sure to stay away from cleaners containing bleach or chlorine and let everything air dry with the lid off when you’re done.

Washing the filter element is not advisable at all and really not necessary as long as you remember to replace it every 3 months.

Manual

You can find the Aquasana Active CWB manual right here.

CWB Cons

The biggest issue is leaking from the silicone cap while drinking but also when the bottle is closed.

What’s more, owed to the filtration, you need to apply strong suction to get enough water when you are really thirsty.

Our next complain is the filter not securing well on the lid. Chances are that some water will bypass it and come out unfiltered. It’s also quite possible that the filter comes loose and sinks to the bottom.

Our final issue is the high price for replacement cartridges. Granted, you only pay a fraction of the cost of bottled water, and yet it feels a bit expensive.

Aquasana Active CWB Review: Our Verdict + Best for

H2O filtered through the Aquasana Active Clean Water Bottle tastes much better than drinking straight from the tap. But not only that. You also don’t have to worry about chlorine, cysts, bacteria and most importantly lead anymore.

The different color designs are pretty, the bottle is comfortable to hold and just great for when you’re on the go.

However, there are issues like the slow flow rate and the leaking that can make everyday use challenging. The initial price tag is reasonable but replacement filters seem overpriced. Thus our verdict: 3.5 stars!

In our opinion, Aquasana’s CWB is best for people who want access to basic water filtration when not at home.
