Aquasure AS-PR75A – Key Features

The Aquasure AS-PR75A is an affordable reverse osmosis system with a 4-stage filtration process, as well as a few optional upgrades. The 4 default filter stages are:

  1. 5-micron PP sediment pre-filter: removes sediment, sand, rust, soil, silt, and other particles.
  2. 5-micron coconut shell carbon block: improves taste and smell, and addresses VOCs, chlorine, pesticides, and other organics.
  3. Reverse osmosis membrane: removes a large number of contaminants, including arsenic, lead, various other heavy metals, dissolved solids, microorganisms.
  4. Coconut shell carbon block: another coconut shell filter that adds a final polish to your water after sitting in the storage tank.

The 4 filter stages combined effectively eliminate up to 99.99% of harmful contaminants, says Aquasure. We cannot really verify this, because there are no NSF certifications and apparently no testing against NSF standards (Aquasure doesn’t provide any specific contaminant reduction rates). However, the filtration process itself is similar to what most other RO systems apply and thus looks quite promising.

Filter life is 6 months to 2 years at about $85-170 in annual maintenance cost.

By the way, you can optionally upgrade your model with the following extras:

  1. Remineralization stage – addresses one of the most common complaints about reverse osmosis water, the lack of minerals.
  2. 100 gpd membrane and LED faucet.
  3. Electric pressure pump for extra pressure and reduced wastewater.

Aquasure RO Water Purifier Pros

The Aquasure AS-PR75A is easy to install and set up, with color-coded tubing that streamlines the process.

You get a pressure protection valve, which can help mitigate pressure surges in your plumbing, as well as a leak detection shut off valve. The RO faucet is offered in two color variants – chrome and brushed nickel.

The system comes with a 1-year limited warranty, as well as a 2-year extended warranty for all Aquasure registered products.

More important pros are:

  • Very affordable upfront price.
  • Fast filter replacements without the need to shut off the water supply.

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

Aquasure lists a large number of contaminants supposedly addressed by the AS-PR75A Premier Advanced Series RO system. However, due to the lack of any official NSF certifications, it’s hard to verify the legitimacy of those claims. Nevertheless, here are some of the contaminants this product is claimed to address:

  • Arsenic
  • Chlorine
  • Fluoride
  • Lead
  • Heavy metals
  • Sediment
  • Sand
  • Rust
  • Soil
  • Silt

Installation

As mentioned before, the under-the-sink system is easy enough to DIY-install.

Here’s a brief rundown of the installation steps. Of course, make sure to check your manual for more detailed, step-by-step instructions.

Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.
  1. Install the feed water adapter by hooking it to the cold water supply valve and connecting it to the system.
  2. Check for leaks.
  3. Find a location for the drain saddle – it should be above the trap, and on a vertical or horizontal pipe piece. Try to install it as low as possible to reduce noise.
  4. Install the drain saddle by drilling a hole through the pipe and using the provided gasket.
  5. Install the tank ball valve on top of the tank.
  6. Install the drinking water faucet – you may need to drill a hole for it first, if you don’t already have one.
  7. Place the filtration system in a suitable location.
  8. Mount the system to the wall using the provided brackets.
  9. Connect all parts of the system, following the color coding of the different tubing segments.
  10. Start the system and check for leaks.

Maintenance

You will need to remember to replace the different filters at the appropriate times. Those vary from one filter to another:

  • Pre-stage filters should be replaced once every 6-12 months.
  • The RO membrane should be replaced every 12-24 months.
  • The carbon post-filter should be replaced once every 6-12 months.

All in all, replacement filters will cost you around $85 – $170 a year. This isn’t exactly cheap compared to other similar products, but at least the company offers a subscription program that allows you to save 10%. The actual replacement process is very simple – just twist and turn to remove/install the cartridges, and you don’t even need to shut off the water supply.

Aquasure AS-PR75A Premier Series Cons

  • Conflicting information on filter replacement schedule. For example, the official manual says 9-12 months for the RO membrane, while the website says 1-2 years.
  • Similar issues with information about the wastewater ratio – sometimes it’s listed as 1:1.5, and sometimes as 1:3. In any case, 1:1.5 sounds pretty implausible from our experience, especially without a pump. We believe that 1:3 is a more realistic value, and would even assume it goes up to 1:5.
  • No NSF certifications or information about testing and contaminant reduction rates.
  • Rather expensive to maintain.

Aquasure AS-PR75A Review: Our Verdict + Best for

Not a bad product on the surface, especially for this price, but it leaves a lot to be desired, especially in the way of detailed information. We have no contaminant reduction rates and no NSF certifications. The contradicting statements about filter life and wastewater ratio are also concerning. All in all, we’d give the Aquasure AS-PR75A Premier Advanced Series Reverse Osmosis System 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Our Rating in Detail:

  • Filtration Performance: 3.5/5.0
  • Filter Capacity (Life): 4.5/5.0

The AquaTru is probably our favorite reverse osmosis system on the market overall – you can read the review here. It’s a countertop system, meaning that it requires practically no installation. It’s also gone through extensive testing and certification, with multiple NSF/ANSI standards – 42, 53, 58, 401, and P473. This means that the system is guaranteed to cover at least these contaminants, but also many others:

  • Chlorine: 96.6%
  • VOCs: 95-99%
  • Chromium-6: 97.2%
  • TDS: 87.1%
  • Cyst: 99.99%
  • Fluoride: 93.5%
  • Lead: 99.1%
  • Radium 226/228: 96.4%
  • BPA: 99%
  • Various trace pharmaceuticals and pesticides: 86.7-96.6%
  • PFOA, PFOS: 97.5%

Here, the AquaTru is much better than the Aquasure.

What’s more, the AquaTru is very easy to use and takes up little space, while also filtering water fast and working very efficiently, with a wastewater ratio of just 20% (much better than the Aquasure) thanks to an internal pump. The device is made of BPA-free Tritan plastic too. However, some users report that it occasionally leaks or stops working prematurely, but those incidents seem to be rare. Initial purchase price is higher than that of the Aquasure, but the AquaTru is cheaper to maintain in the long run at around $100 – $120 per year.

The Waterdrop G3, on the other hand, is a tankless under sink system. This means that it filters water on demand and doesn’t store it for later access. Filtration happens over 4 stages, and the system is capable of removing:

  • VOCs: 99%
  • Chlorine: 99%
  • Nitrate: 98%
  • Fluoride: 99%
  • Arsenic: 99%
  • Chromium-6: 99%
  • Lead: 99%
  • PFOA/PFOS: 99%

*Based on NSF testing/certification to standards 42, 53, 58, and 401.

More features:

  • Internal pump boosts filtration speed and reduces wastewater to 33% – the Aquasure wastes much more.
  • Straightforward installation – similar to the Aquasure.
  • Integrated smart faucet lets you know when it’s time for a filter replacement and gives TDS reading of output water. Same can be found on system front panel.
  • Filters last for between 550 and 2,200 gallons, and need to be replaced every 6-24 months. The process is very simple, and you don’t even need to shut off your water or unplug anything.
  • BPA-free.
  • 30-day money back guarantee as well as a 1-year warranty.

Cons:

  • Can make unusual noises from time to time.
  • Costs more than the Aquasure, but it’s about the same in terms of maintenance expenses at around $145 per year.
