Bluevua RO100ROPOT – Key Features

The Bluevua RO100ROPOT is a countertop RO system with a lightweight design and very straightforward installation. It comes with 4 filtration stages, simplified operation, and a smart display that lets you check your water quality in real time. The display also allows you to dispense predefined quantities of water.

But first things first; the 4 filtration stages are:

  1. 5-micron polypropylene sediment pre-filter: removes dirt, corrosion, sediment, and other physical particles.
  2. 0.5-micron carbon block filter: removes chlorine and organic matter.
  3. Reverse osmosis membrane: removes many contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, salts, and various others.
  4. 0.1-micron carbon block post-filter: improves the taste of water and removes any leftover chemicals.

The overall filtration setup is pretty standard for a reverse osmosis system, and covers all important bases. Bluevua provides a few contaminants reduction rates, too, which look very promising, such as lead (99.51%), chlorine (99.9%), and fluoride (98.57%).

Water is collected in a borosilicate glass carafe to avoid secondary contamination – you can dispense 0.13, 0.26, or 0.39 gallons using the smart display – and the system attempts to avoid using plastic as much as possible in general.

The drain ratio is 2:1, meaning that only around 33% of the input water is wasted. That’s pretty good compared to other systems on the market, some of which waste as much as 80% of the input water.

To get the best filtration results, you can also use automatic and manual backflushing, according to your preferences. Finally, your purchase is covered by a 1-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Filter life: 12-24 months at $120-150 in annual cost.

Bluevua Reverse Osmosis System Pros

  • Very easy to set up and use.
  • Several contaminants covered with specific reduction rates.
  • Convenient features provided by the smart display, such as TDS monitoring and filter life status.
  • Very easy to replace filters (no tools needed, simple twist).

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

Even though the system has no official NSF certifications, Bluevua has still provided some contaminant reduction rates – and those look quite impressive:

  • Total coliforms: 99.99%
  • Fluoride: 98.57%
  • Arsenic: 94.67%
  • Lead: 99.51%
  • Chlorine: 99.9%
  • MBAA: 98%

These contaminants are also mentioned:

  • Chlorides
  • Mercury
  • Chloramine
  • Chromium
  • Arsenic
  • Radium

Maintenance

Once the icon for one of the filters starts to flash on the smart display, this means it’s time to replace the corresponding filter element. To do that:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Remove the water tank.
  3. Remove the side cover.
  4. Pull the filter towards you, angling it at around 45 degrees.
  5. Twist the filter clockwise to unscrew it.
  6. Insert a new filter and screw it in counterclockwise.
  7. Replace the cover and water tank.
  8. Turn on the unit.
  9. Flush the unit a few times before using it (let it filter a full carafe of water, then discard it).

Even though there are indicators that tell you when to replace filters, it’s still a good idea to keep the general schedule in mind:

  • 12 months for regular filters.
  • 12-24 months for the reverse osmosis membrane.

The total maintenance costs come down to around $120 – $150 per year.

NSF and Other Certifications

There are no NSF certifications related to contaminant reduction. The official documentation does mention NSF 58 for structural integrity, but we could not verify this.

Earlier Product Versions

As far as we can tell, the Bluevua RO100ROPOT Countertop RO used to be called the KFLOW RO100ROPOT. Both models seem pretty much identical.

Bluevua Reverse Osmosis Cons

How about disadvantages?

  • The official website could use some improvement – for example, there’s no listed company address, and a lot of information about the company is missing in general. This simply doesn’t feel very trustworthy to us.
  • The company claims that the product is certified against NSF 58 (for structural integrity), but we could not verify this.
  • We would have liked some official documentation about contaminant reduction.
  • According to users, the glass carafe is a bit fragile.

Bluevua RO100ROPOT Review: Our Verdict + Best for

The Bluevua RO100ROPOT is a system that features quite a powerful filtration process which wastes very little water and comes at an adequate price. Installation and maintenance are simple, and the annual filter replacement costs are okay. We would definitely like to see some more information about contaminant reduction, though. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars.

The AquaTru (review here) is another countertop system that requires no installation process, but comes with some more impressive features – such as the fact that it’s been independently tested and certified against several NSF standards (42, 53, 58, 401, and P473), for a total of almost 80 contaminants. Thanks to this, the system can guaranteed deal with the following:

  • Chlorine: 96.6%
  • VOCs: 95-99%
  • Chromium-6: 97.2%
  • TDS: 87.1%
  • Cyst: 99.99%
  • Fluoride: 93.5%
  • Lead: 99.1%
  • Radium 226/228: 96.4%
  • BPA: 99%
  • Various trace pharmaceuticals and pesticides: 86.7-96.6%
  • PFOA, PFOS: 97.5%

The AquaTru is lightweight and compact, saving a lot of space, and it’s very simple to use. Filtration works very fast, and is quite efficient too, with only 20% of water being wasted. The Bluevua RO100ROPOT is already quite impressive in this regard, but the AquaTru is even better. And even though it’s a slightly more expensive system and some users occasionally report minor leaks, we would strongly recommend it to those looking for the best performance on the market. The device is made of BPA-free plastic. Its annual maintenance is less expensive than that of the Bluevua too, at around $100 – $120 per year.

Next up is the Waterdrop G3, which is a tankless under sink reverse osmosis system. This means that it filters water on demand and doesn’t store it in a tank, making it space efficient. The 4-stage filtration process can handle those contaminants, among others:

  • VOCs: 99%
  • Chlorine: 99%
  • Nitrate: 98%
  • Fluoride: 99%
  • Arsenic: 99%
  • Chromium-6: 99%
  • Lead: 99%
  • PFOA/PFOS: 99%

Pressure is regulated by an internal pump, resulting in a 0.42 gallon per minute flow rate which should be more than enough for most households’ needs. You can filter a full cup of water in just 8 seconds – and with a 33% wastewater ratio, it’s on the same level as the Bluevua.

The main downside to the Waterdrop G3 compared to the other two systems is that it does require some installation, but the process is not that complicated and can be done without professional help.

You also get a smart faucet which alerts you when it’s time to replace filters with light and sound. On that note, you can expect filters to last between 500 and 2,200 gallons of water – or 6-24 months. Swapping them out is very simple and doesn’t require any special tools or skills – you don’t even need to shut off the water beforehand! You can also monitor your TDS levels with the monitoring panel, and get an idea of the overall effectiveness of the system as well.

The whole body is made of BPA-free plastic, and Waterdrop even offers a full money-back guarantee for the first 30 days of the purchase. On top of that, you get a 1-year warranty – but it’s only valid if you use the system with municipal water.

It may produce the occasional annoying noise, but other than that, it’s a solid choice all around. The initial purchase price is higher than that of the Bluevua, although it has roughly the same annual maintenance price – around $145.
