Today’s review features the Propur ProMax 4-stage shower filter. According to Propur, the water filter is tested against NSF standards to reduce 200+ contaminants that might be lurking in your shower water, protecting your skin and hair from their unhealthy effects.
This is probably the most thorough testing we’ve ever seen being performed on a shower filter. Plus, the Propur ProMax improves water odor and taste (in case you get thirsty). Do we have your attention?

What we like most about the ProMax shower filter is the fact that it was thoroughly tested (not certified) against NSF Standards 42 and 53. Here is an excerpt from the lab report:
The filter reduces or removes
As you can see, the filter is NOT perfect for all types of contaminants, heavy metals in particular. This is also why Propur advises against the use with microbiologically unsafe water without adequate disinfection.
Still, the filtration performance is pretty solid when compared to other filter models on the market. By the way, ProMax shower filters use four propriety filtration layers but neither contain resins nor beads.
The flow rate is 2 gallons per minute which is just fine to get enough pressure going.
ProMax shower filters come with a massaging head. You can choose between different finishes: White, chrome, antique bronze (our personal favorite), and brushed nickel.
The chrome version is also available with a handheld wand plus durable stainless steel flex hose.
All heads offer 5 different spray settings for the highest comfort.

As with most shower filters, installing a Propur ProMax is simple and straightforward and shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. Just follow these instructions:
The filter fits ½” standard pipe threads.
As with the installation, replacing filters is a quick and easy process:
Filtration capacity: Up to 6-9 months. Cost? Around $40 per cartridge which we find acceptable.
Here is a link to the manual.
The initial purchase price is quite high, especially if you don’t go with the white standard version.
Other than that, only a few minor issues such as some replacement filters not lasting a full 6 months.
All in all, most people are pleasantly surprised about the Propur ProMax shower filter and the filtered water quality it provides. They’ve praised the easy install and nice flow, and just enjoy their new shower experience. Personally, we really appreciate all the testing Propur has gone through. Results are satisfying and you can easily tell if the ProMax is the right shower filter ideal for your water conditions. 4 stars!
