Enviro Water Products Carbon Series – Key Features

Enviro whole house water filters are tank-based systems offering sediment, catalytic carbon, and KDF media filtration. This makes them ideal for filtering the most common contaminants found in municipal water supplies.

The system will greatly improve water aesthetics making your water better tasting and healthier. It will also protect your plumbing and home appliances from sediment which can significantly reduce their lifespan. Chlorine/chloramine removal is also great for improving hair and skin health.

Enviro offers the system in three different sizes:

  • CS-1044 – 10 gallons per minute flow rate – for 1-3 baths – 1,324,800-gallon capacity
  • CS-1344 – 14 gpm flow rate – for 4-6 baths – 1,656,000-gallon capacity
  • CS-HF20 – 20 gpm flow rate – for 7+ baths – gallon capacity is not specified

Additionally, each model comes equipped with NFC technology, which allows it to connect wirelessly to your smartphone to control the filter operation. Simply scan the NFC sticker on the sediment filter bracket with your smartphone and instantly access the filtration system.

Enviro Whole House Water Filter Pros

More pros:

  • The system offers a solid combination of filter media types including catalytic carbon – which is highly effective at removing chloramine (a commonly used chemical in municipal water treatment).
  • A bypass valve also comes with the system, making installation and maintenance easier to perform.
  • The manufacturer offers a limited lifetime warranty (12 years) on the system as well as a guarantee on chlorine and chloramine reduction to below-detectable levels for the lifespan of the filter.

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

First, the 5-micron sediment pre-filter will remove sand, silt, sediment, and rust. This serves to both protect the carbon filter stage from clogging as well as extend the lifespan of your water-consuming home appliances.

Next, the catalytic carbon and KDF media stage removes chlorine, chloramine, industrial solvents, disinfection by-products, poor taste and odor, as well as other organic chemicals present in your water.

Installation

Thanks to the bypass valve, installation is in no way more complicated than with other whole house water filters. If you are handy with tools, you can make this your DIY project and save money!

Before installation can take place, the system must be soaked and flushed. This process will take a minimum of 48 hours – so plan your installation accordingly. During the process, water will flow out of the outlet side of the bypass valve, so be sure to perform this in an area suitable for water flow.

Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.

Tools and Materials needed for installation:

  • Garden hose
  • Pipe cutter
  • Appropriate plumbing connections
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumbers tape
  • Bucket and towel

Installation process steps:

  1. Before starting any other steps, ensure the included bypass valve is installed on the head of the tank. Slide the bypass valve onto the filter tank head with the unthreaded ends facing the tank and tighten the quick connect nuts by hand.
  2. Now you will need to soak the carbon tank. To complete the soak, follow this process:
    1. Attach a hose to the included hose bib assembly. Then, attach the hose bib to the bypass valve INLET and tighten it by hand.
    2. Turn the water on until water flows from the bypass valve outlet. At this point, turn the water supply off.
    3. Disconnect the garden hose and the hose bib assembly.
    4. Allow the tank to soak for at least 48 hours before moving on.
  3. At this point, you’ll need to complete the flushing process. Follow these steps:
    1. Attach the garden hose and the hose bib assembly and connect them to the INLET side of the bypass valve.
    2. Turn on the water slowly a ¼ turn.
    3. Allow the water to flow for about half an hour to eliminate the tiny carbon particles. You’ll notice dark, discolored water coming out of the OUTLET port. This is normal and indicates the process is working.
    4. Turn the water off. Then, disconnect the hose bib assembly from the bypass valve’s INLET and swap it over to the OUTLET.
    5. Slowly turn the water on fully.
    6. Allow water to flush through the OUTLET for about 3 minutes.
    7. Now shut the water off, and disconnect the hose bib assembly and the garden hose.
    8. This process resets the carbon and completes the flushing stage.
  4. Now, unscrew the sediment filter cover from the housing. Remove the sediment filter from its protective plastic wrapper.
  5. Position the sediment filter inside the filter housing, ensuring it sits on the standpipe inside the filter housing.
  6. Place the cover on the filter housing and hand-tighten it.
  7. Turn off the water and fasten the mounting bracket to the wall with the included screws.
  8. Connect the assembled sediment filter to the mounting bracket with the included bolt head screws and washers.
  9. Tighten the filter housing using the filter wrench, being careful not to overtighten.
  10. Now, ensure the filter tank is level. Determine the type of plumbing line running from the sediment filter and select the necessary fittings and adapters to connect to the included 1” Male NPT assembly.
  11. Install the included 1” Male NPT fittings onto both ports on the bypass valve.
  12. Connect the inbound water line from the pre-filter system to the bypass valve’s INLET side. Then, connect the outbound water line to the bypass valve’s OUTLET side.

The Package (Parts)

Maintenance

The only regular system maintenance required is replacing the sediment pre-filter every 6 to 9 months. The exact replacement interval will depend on the amount of sediment in your water.

To replace the sediment filter:

  1. Shut off the main water supply and reroute water through the bypass valve.
  2. Turn on a cold-water faucet downstream of the system to release pressure in the plumbing.
  3. Detach the blue filter housing by rotating in a clockwise direction using the filter wrench.
  4. Remove the old sediment filter and dispose of it.
  5. Remove both old O-rings and discard. Use food-grade silicone lubricant to coat 2 new O-rings and replace them. Ensure the O-rings are seated correctly inside the grooves.
  6. Insert a new sediment filter into the filter housing ensuring its positioned over the standpipe.
  7. Hand-tighten the blue-colored filter housing onto the cover. Then, use the filter wrench to tighten until lightly snug.
  8. Turn the main water line on slowly and allow the system to refill. Put the system back in use by turning off the bypass valve.
  9. Check the system for leaks.

NSF and Other Certifications

The system is IAPMO certified against NSF/ANSI Standard 42. This is the standard on the reduction of aesthetic effects – namely chlorine taste/odor and particulates.

The system will reduce chlorine by 95.93% on average. Keep in mind that only the 1044 and 1344 models feature certification and not the larger HF20. These models also comply with NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which is for components coming into contact with drinking water.

Earlier Product Versions

The Enviro Water Products Carbon Series Whole House Water Filters have no earlier product versions as far as we can tell.

Enviro Whole House Filter Cons

Unfortunately, the system is not widely sold and is mainly distributed through local resellers. This means pricing is not very transparent and you may end up paying more for the system than necessary.

The manufacturer’s official website also does not provide pricing information or convey a great deal of trust.

Enviro Water Products Carbon Series Review: Our Verdict + Best for

SpringWell’s CF is a similar tank-based system that offers the same filter media combination – 5-micron sediment pre-filter, catalytic activated carbon, and KDF. It will remove the same contaminants as the Enviro system more or less, but its pricing appears to be lower than the Enviro’s. Additionally, SpringWell is a very well-known and respected brand with excellent customer service, money-back guarantee, and warranty support. The SpringWell CF wins!

The Kind E-1000 is a 2-stage cartridge-based system with a 5-micron sediment pre-filter stage followed by a catalytic carbon block stage. It will remove most of the same contaminants as the Enviro, but the lack of KDF media means it won’t remove certain heavy metals. The system costs significantly less than the Enviro at approximately $800, but as it requires annual filter replacements at about $145 annually, the long-term costs will exceed the Enviros. Kind is another well-known brand with excellent customer service, satisfaction guarantee, and warranty support. The Kind E-1000 wins!
