The Brita Aluna is another entry in Brita’s long line of water filtration pitchers. Does this one offer anything unique to set it apart from the rest, and is it worth picking over Brita’s other products – and competing water filter pitchers in general? Let’s see what the Brita Aluna has to offer!
Truth is, the Brita Aluna is a relatively simple model without any fancy features – but like many of Brita’s other products, it’s designed to simply get the job done. It comes with a 3-stage filtration process integrated into the Maxtra+ filter cartridge. The stages are as follows:
However, note that there are no NSF certificates provided for this pitcher, so we only have Brita’s claims about its filtration strength (more on this below).
The pitcher holds 10 cups of water, which is about average for a product of this type, and should be okay for most households.
A nice additional feature is the spout cover, which keeps your filtered water free of dust and other particles that might potentially fall into it. You can also wash the body and funnel in your dishwasher – just don’t try to wash the filter cartridge.
Your purchase also comes with a 90-day warranty.
Filter life: 26 gallons or 1 month. Annual filter replacement cost: About $70-80.
Unfortunately, no official information has been provided about the exact contaminant filtration rates of the Brita Aluna. Due to the filter media used, we can assume that it can handle at least the following contaminants:

As mentioned before, getting the Brita Alina Water Filter Jug up and ready for first use is simple. Just follow these steps:
To keep your Brita Aluna pitcher in an optimal condition, you mostly have to remember to replace the filter cartridge regularly (check the indicator!). While you’re at it, you should also wash the jug. To replace the cartridge, simply follow the steps from the “Assembly and Priming” section above.
How often should you do that in the first place though? A single cartridge can last for around 26 gallons or 1 month of use. This comes down to around $70 – $80 per year in replacement cost, which is not exactly cheap, considering the overall filtration strength you get.
Sorry, we couldn’t find the official manual online.
No certifications – NSF or otherwise – have been provided by Brita.
Brita regularly releases new versions of its water filter pitchers, but those often don’t come with any improvements in the filter design itself. However, the Maxtra cartridge has indeed been improved with the release of the Maxtra+, adding a 25% finer mesh for better reduction of coarse particles.
The Brita Aluna Water Filter Jug doesn’t offer anything special, and is rather expensive compared to other similar pitchers. Given the low filtration strength, this pitcher isn’t really good for more than improving the smell and taste of your water. And even then, there are better options out there if that’s your primary goal.
Need an alternative with better filtration capabilities? The Clearly Filtered and Epic Pure are two of the leading models on the market right now, and they are both worth checking out if you want something more serious.
Clearly Filtered is one of the most renowned premium brands on this market. Their pitcher comes with NSF standards 42, 53, and 401, and can deal with more than 350 contaminants overall (chlorine + chloramine, lead, chromium 6, arsenic, VOCs, PFAS, fluoride, pesticides, herbicides, and more).
Each filter cartridge lasts for around 100 gallons of water, so you can get more use out of them compared to the Brita. In addition, the pitcher body is made of BPA-free materials in the USA, and the pitcher comes with a lifetime warranty and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. However, it’s also more expensive to buy than the Brita Aluna.
If the high cost of the Clearly Filtered is of concern to you, you might also want to look at the Epic Pure as a slightly more affordable alternative. It can also target more than 200 contaminants that cover NSF standards 42, 53, and 401.
You can get 150 gallons of filtered water out of a single cartridge, which is much more than what’s offered by the Brita Aluna and Clearly Filtered, and you can get a free new cartridge if you send four used ones to the company. You also get a lifetime warranty and a streamlined return policy, and you can get a discount if you belong to various groups. Those include military personnel, first responders, medical staff, teachers, students, seniors, as well as people involved in non-profit organizations.
Bottom line is, the Clearly Filtered Pitcher is the best choice if you want thorough filtration above everything else. If it’s too expensive for you, you should consider the Epic Pure instead. Only get the Brita Aluna if you don’t care about anything other than improving the smell and taste of your water.
