Epic Water Pitcher Pros

The Epic Pure is loaded with pros. Let’s start with the most obvious: It improves water aesthetics and removes harmful contaminants.

And you don’t have to worry about the pitcher’s effectiveness – it’s been third-party tested against NSF standards 42, 53, and 401.Despite its high effectiveness levels, the pitcher does you a solid by retaining calcium, potassium, magnesium, and other healthy minerals in your water.

Annual maintenance cost of around $90 to $135 seems fair.

We also like that the pitcher is designed to be compact enough to fit flawlessly on refrigerator shelves and comes with a flip-top lid that allows for smooth one-handed refilling.

Epic offers a lifetime warranty and a satisfaction guarantee (if you’re unsatisfied with the product, you can return it for a full refund). Also, if you subscribe to the Clean Water Club, you get replacement filters delivered automatically at a 20% discount. In addition, all Epic users can benefit from Epic’s recycling program: You get one free replacement filter when you mail back four used ones. The company gives special discounts to first responders, teachers, students, military personnel, seniors, medical staff, and owners and employees of non-profit organizations.

Wha’s more, all Epic pitchers are made in the USA and BPA/BPS free (so you don’t need to worry about your genetic material getting altered).

Bonus pro: The Epic pitcher series also has the Epic Nano filter pitcher, which targets microorganisms like viruses, bacteria, and cysts. It’s also better than the Epic Pure at handling hard water and sediments – think well water. The upside here is Epic Pure and Epic Nano filter cartridges are interchangeable.

Assembly and Filter Priming

Assembling and priming the Epic Pure is easy. Here are the steps to follow:

Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.
  1. Confirm that the clear silicone gasket is in the correct position.
  2. Hand wash the jug and filter parts with mild detergent (use only delicate cleaners and keep the filter from hot water and soap). Rinse the jug thoroughly.
  3. Fix the filter into the reservoir (note: it’s okay if the reservoir holes don’t align with the filter holes. What’s important is that the lid fits securely on the pitcher).
  4. Pour cold water into the reservoir until full. Then, prime the filter by throwing out the first two jugs of filtered water.
  5. Refill the pitcher and set the digital timer to begin the 90-day countdown.
  6. Your filter is now ready for use!

Maintenance

Maintaining the Epic Pure is easy and also relatively cheap. It costs around $90-135 a year.

The exact filter life depends on water quality and the number of users. The average filter life for one user is 4-5 months, two users 3-4 months, and a standard family 2-3 months. If your filter still works after six months, Epic recommends you change it anyway to keep filtration efficiency at a maximum.

While adding the replacement filter, reset the timer by pressing the start button for 8 seconds (do it until the display stops flashing).

NSF and Other Certifications

The Epic Pure pitcher has no official NSF certifications, but it’s been third-party tested against NSF standards 42,53, and 401.

Earlier Product Versions

There’s been some earlier versions of the Epic Pure, and their designs have changed over time.

Epic Pure Filter Pitcher Cons

Despite its long list of pros, the Epic Pure pitcher has its shortcomings. A concerning issue is it usually takes between 10-15 minutes to filter one refill. But some users mentioned that their filtration slowed down considerably after a few weeks. Epic mentions that the filtration could take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1-2 hours. While a higher contact time helps with water quality, waiting so long for a refill is far from ideal.

There have also been complaints about the pitcher’s top coming off when pouring and the flip lid getting stuck.

The Epic Pure also costs more than many competitor models, and while NSF testing is in-depth, we would have preferred official NSF certifications.

Epic Pure Review: Our Verdict + Best for

The Epic Pure pitcher is our second favorite water filter pitcher, right after the Clearly Filtered. It’s fairly priced, and NSF testing shows that it has powerful filtration abilities. It also has an impressive warranty and return policy and a long filter life. This pitcher is definitely worth the money. We’ll give it 4.5 stars!

NSF-tested to remove way more than 360 different water contaminants, the Clearly Filtered Pitcher is a top-of-the-line model. It has the most thorough testing we’ve seen from a water filter pitcher, and the results are excellent.

The Clearly Filtered Pitcher removes contaminants like fluoride, chloramine, lead, chlorine, chromium-6, pesticides, semi-volatile compounds, DBPs, pharmaceuticals, VOCs, radiologicals, and much more.

The CF pitcher filters water using a blend of proprietary filter media and granular activated carbon. Its filter life is around 4 months (or 100 gallons), which is possibly less than with the Epic Pure, depending on water conditions.

Also, the Clearly Filtered has a total storage of 17 cups and 10 cups filtered volume, which is larger than the Epic. Its removable lid was designed to make refilling easier, and we’re also into its 100% BPA-free and made in USA design.

Lat but not least, the Clearly Filtered offers a limited lifetime warranty and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee – Epic surpasses it here. A big con with the Clearly Filtered Pitcher is its higher price.

All in all, the Clearly Filtered is our favorite, but we would pick the Epic if we were on a smaller budget.
