In our opinion, the Turapur is not the best choice when it comes to water filter pitchers – far from it.

Why? Most importantly, it hasn’t been tested nor certified to remove any contaminants from water, and for what the Turapur does we feel it’s definitely overpriced.

But first things first: Let’s review the Turapur Water Filter Pitcher in detail!

Turapur – Key Features

The Turapur (actually the correct spelling is Turapür) water filter pitcher has 3 key features:

  1. It uses activated carbon to remove bad tastes and odors from water.
  2. Ion exchange resin softens the water.
  3. With the help of magnesium, infrared ceramics, and tourmaline, the Turapur pitcher supposedly produces hydrogen-rich, alkaline water with a pH level of around 9. According to the manufacturer, free hydrogen in water is a powerful antioxidant.

We’ll discuss each of these features in a second.

More features are:

  • Replacement filters last a full 90 gallons or 60 days which is pretty solid.
  • The pitcher is covered by a long 3-year warranty (does not include filter cartridges).
  • You get a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

Turapur Pitcher Pros

Many people swear by alkaline drinking water and the Turapur provides that. Also:

  • The pitcher is easy to set up and use.
  • It uses BPA-free materials only.
  • It fits in most refrigerator doors.
  • You can claim a 20% discount on any Turapur product when you subscribe to Turapur text messages.

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

The Turapur Water Filter Pitcher is only claimed to remove bad taste and odor.

Installation

Setting up the Turapur is as simple as with any conventional water filter pitcher:

Please consider these instructions as a general guideline. Always make sure to check and follow your user manual before getting started.
  1. You remove the filter from its pouch.
  2. Pull off the 2 stickers at the bottom.
  3. And let it soak in water for 15 minutes.
  4. Then you place the filter inside the pitcher and push gently until you hear it lock in place.
  5. Lastly, run one pitcher of water through the filter to remove any loose carbon fibers. Done!

The Package (Parts)

Maintenance

You need to remember to replace the filter cartridge every 90 gallons or 2 months. Cost: Around $130 a year which is quite expensive considering what you actually get (more on this in a second).

In addition, for the filter to continue working it requires regular cleaning. Turapur recommends pouring vinegar solution through the pitcher at least once a week.

To replace the filter cartridge:

  1. Remove the old filter cartridge – it has a pull tab on top that can help you.
  2. Place new filter cartridge into the pitcher and push it down to secure it in place.
  3. Fill the pitcher, let the water filter through completely, then discard it. Repeat one more time.

The pitcher even comes with a handy stick-on calendar to help you keep track of when it’s time to replace the cartridge.

Manual

Sorry, we couldn’t find a manual online.

NSF and Other Certifications

There are no NSF certifications whatsoever.

Earlier Product Versions

To our knowledge, the Turapur water pitcher has not earlier versions.

Turapur Water Pitcher Cons

Hydrogen Water with Increased pH

Water filtered with the Turapur is supposed to be a “fountain of energy” and “youth”. That’s because the filter pitcher uses magnesium, infrared ceramics, and tourmaline to enrich water with free hydrogen and increase its pH.

What do we make of this? First of all, water with a pH value of 9 is indeed alkaline water. Claimed health benefits when used for drinking include feeling more energized, improved digestion, strengthened bones, and slowed aging. However, clinical evidence on the matter is very limited or nonexistent.

How about hydrogen in water? It may benefit people suffering from metabolic syndrome or those undergoing radiation. But again, clinical literature is sparse. That said, magnesium only gradually reacts with cold water if at all. But this reaction is necessary to produce the hydrogen in the first place. So it might very well be that the Turapur water filter pitcher does not actually increase hydrogen levels in water significantly. And even if it does, hydrogen is a gas and the lightest element in our universe. So, the Turapur not being airproof, chances are that all potential hydrogen might already have evaporated from your water before you get a change to drink it.

Lack of Contaminant Removal

The activated carbon inside Turapur filter cartridges is NSF-certified, according to the company. However, the pitcher itself is neither NSF-tested nor certified. In other words, we are missing independent lab test results for contaminant reduction rates.

What’s more, how effective a water filtration process really is depends a lot on the contact time between water and filter media. But if you watch one of the videos online showing how fast water flows through the Turapur filter pitcher, it is hard to imagine that a whole lot of contamination will be removed. This is also probably why the pitcher is only claimed to remove bad taste and odor from water.

Bottom line: If you want a water filter pitcher to get access to clean and safe filtered water, this one is probably not it.

Price and Billing Terms

In our honest opinion, the Turapur Water Filter Pitcher is overpriced, retailing at around $60 when updating this review.

What’s more, you have to agree to receive a new set of replacement filters every 6 months billed at $55 if you wanted to order the Turapur Water Filter Pitcher on the official company website (which seems to be the only place where you can get it). We don’t really like this.

Other Cons

  • The Turapur water filter pitcher softens water. Personally, we don’t see the benefit of drinking softened water. It lacks calcium and possibly other healthy minerals.
  • People have been complaining about the pitcher being difficult to use due to its square shape. Essentially, when you pour water it spurts.
  • Having to clean the Turapur with vinegar once a week is not a big deal, but it’s inconvenient and you don’t have to do it with any other water filter pitcher we know of. Above that, you might need to run additional water through the pitcher to get rid of vinegar taste residue which lowers the remaining filtration capacity.

Turapur Review: Our Verdict + Best for

The initial cost for the Turapur water filter pitcher is way too high for what you get: Very basic filtration paired with alleged health benefits from alkalinized water enriched with hydrogen (theoretically). 1.5 stars!

By the way, our final verdict also reflects overall online customer feedback. Many people report their water tastes better but that’s about it. They don’t feel any different. Some even called the Turapur pitcher a hoax or scam. We wouldn’t go that far, though.

Our Rating in Detail:

  • Filter Capacity (Life): 4.5/5.0
  • Purchase Price: 3.5/5.0

Comparison to Other Water Filter Pitchers

If you’re looking for an alternative option, there is no shortage of similar products on the market – for example, the Seychelle Gen 2 Dual pH2O Water Filter Pitcher, if you insist on getting an alkaline pitcher, or the Clearly Filtered, which is a general-purpose water filter pitcher that’s quite popular right now.

Turapur Water Filter Pitcher

Turapur

Price: $$$
Filter Process: Activated Carbon, Ion Exchange, Mineral + Ceramic Balls
Filter Capacity: 90 gal
Storage Volume: ?
Annually: ~$130

Overall Rating: 1.5/5.0 ⓘRating based on filtration performance, filter life, price and yearly cost, NSF testing/certification, customer support, product warranty, our testing/experience, user feedback, and other factors.

The Seychelle Gen 2 Dual pH2O Water Filter Pitcher allows you to raise the alkalinity of your water, bringing the pH level up to 9.5 through the use of mineralization. But first your water passes through ion exchange resin and activated carbon filter media. Where’s the difference to the Turapur? You get some extra reassurance about the specific capabilities of the Seychelle thanks to its test data – this model is tested against NSF standards 42 and 53. This means that it’s capable of removing/reducing at least the following contaminants, proven in a controlled manner:

  • Various VOCs: 99.8%
  • PFOA and PFOS: 98-99%
  • Chlorine: 90.91%
  • Arsenic: ~90%
  • Aluminum: ~95%
  • Chromium: 95-96%
  • Lead: 93.5-96%
  • Fluoride: 98.6%
  • Nitrate: 97.7%
  • Nitrite: 85.5%

These properties alone already make the Seychelle Gen 2 Dual pH2O Water Filter Pitcher a better choice than the Turapur in our opinion. On top of that, it also offers more efficient cartridges, lasting for up to 150 gallons as opposed to Turapur’s 90 gallons per cartridge. The model’s production is also specifically controlled for certain factors, including the use of non-BPA leaching plastics, and all filter cartridge manufacturing takes place in the USA.

That’s not to say that the Seychelle Gen 2 Dual pH2O doesn’t have some shortcomings:

  • Only 90 days of warranty, compared to Turapur’s 3 years.
  • Despite the more efficient cartridges, annual maintenance still ends up more expensive than the Turapur, with costs of around $120-180 per year.
  • Only holds 8 cups of filtered water, which is relatively low for the market in general.
  • Cartridges may not last as long as stated by the manufacturer, occasionally clogging up prematurely.

If you don’t specifically require an alkaline water pitcher, you might also want to consider the Clearly Filtered. This is one of the most popular water filter pitchers on the market at the moment, and for plenty of good reasons. It holds multiple NSF certifications – 42, 53, and 401 – and can effectively reduce/remove over 300 contaminants. The company behind this pitcher is very serious about properly testing its capabilities, and this transparent approach to production and communication gives us a lot of confidence in what Clearly Filtered brings to the table.

Some of the contaminants the Clearly Filtered can deal with include:

  • Chlorine
  • Chloramine
  • DBPs
  • Lead
  • Chromium-6
  • Arsenic
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Pesticides
  • VOCs
  • Semi-volatile compounds
  • PFAS
  • Fluoride
  • Radiologicals

This pitcher uses a combination of granular activated carbon and proprietary filter media, allowing it to work against various different types of water contaminants, including some less widespread ones.

Its cartridges also last longer than Turapur’s, with a lifetime of 100 gallons each. The Clearly Filtered comes with a removable lid that allows for easy refilling. And like the Seychelle pitcher, Clearly Filtered is made of 100% BPA-free materials and built in the USA.

Warranty? Limited lifetime + 30 days satisfaction guarantee!

Con: Expensive to purchase and maintain.

I have tried this Turapan water pitcher and gave it an HONEST try 4 months.
I don’t like it AT ALL. I have been wanting to return it for quite awhile now and can find
No return address, phone number ANYWHERE. Can someone help me with that. The water pitcher alone is 139.00 I did not like the taste and then when I put the filtered water
in my ice cube tray, after the water turnee into ice, the ice cubes should have been clear, but they were very cloudy. I spent only 37.00 on my zero water pitcher and the ice cubes are so clear you can see right through them. Thank you to anyone who can help me send this water pitcher and the extra filters back. Thank You.

I bought Turapur and the filter floated up in the water, I could never get it to stay
In place. When I called to return, they said I only had 30 days to return, while the ad said 60. I use the pitcher to water my plants. Was dissappointed.

I Agree with everything at first they made claim to reaching a -400 on a ph level using a orp meter. So of coarse I purchased a very expensive one. After calibration tilt originally measured to low -300 when I first purchased the pitcher but after I received a new shipment of filters it dropped into a 300 + scale reading. I called the company and no one will call me back. With research it’s filter components are expensive and there’s no doubt they have cut quality and are ripping off the public. I’m in a research mode to find the highest quality filter system. Funny how the bottle water industry is a joke selling dead water advertising it’s spring water. I’ve tested them all. Your house hold water is better.
Thxs for your research.
Turapur is a basic low end filter and charging way to much.

We have found so much sediment in the bottom of our pitcher. it wasnt untill we replaced the filter we notice it coming from the filter itself. the bottom of our hot water kettle and bed side glass. horrible. even with the new replacement filter it left a solid sediment. I would not recommend.
