  2. Mineral spheres: This stage adds iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium.

  4. Ion exchange resin: Works to reduce heavy metals and softens the water.

  6. Infrared ceramics: Supposedly improves the texture of water making it easier to absorb.

According to Vitev, their pitcher also adds molecular hydrogen to the water at a rate of around 0.3 ppm. The goal: Improve your energy levels among other things.

Filter life: 60 gallons or 2 months.

Vitev Water Pitcher Pros

  • Six treatment/filtration stages.
  • Alkalizes water on top of purifying it. Vitev claims the treated drinking water helps you “energize, balance, and revitalize your body” improving your overall health.
  • Easy to install and use, with a flap for easy refilling.

What Contaminants Are Being Removed?

There isn’t any information about the contaminant reduction rates of this pitcher. Given the fact that it utilizes granular activated carbon, this means that it can at least remove/reduce contaminants such as chlorine, which contribute to unpleasant smells or tastes in water. Carbon also works against many organic chemicals. Ion exchange resin which is also used is particularly effective against heavy metals and salts.

Maintenance

There isn’t much that you need to remember in order to keep your Vitev pitcher in good condition. As with any other water filter pitcher, the main point is to replace the filter cartridge when it expires. In this case, one cartridge can last for up to 60 gallons or 2 months of use. This sounds relatively fine until you see the replacement costs of filter cartridges – maintaining the pitcher comes down to around $120 per year, which is very expensive compared to other models with better features.

When you’re replacing the filter, take the time to wash the pitcher with warm, soapy water as well.

And as mentioned before, there is a filter life indicator that lets you know when to replace filters.

Vitev Alkaline Pitcher Cons

  • Rather expensive, both upfront and in the long term, with an initial purchase price of around $55, and annual costs of around $120.
  • Presumably not very good at removing contaminants that actually matter, like lead, chromium 6, or PFAS – the company admits that itself.
  • No official information about contaminant reduction rates.
  • No NSF or other certifications, or even testing.
  • Need to wait for water to filter through before pouring.
  • Water may leak out of unfiltered storage.
  • Keep in mind that the various health claims surrounding alkaline and hydrogen-infused water etc. are largely unconfirmed, so take them with a grain of salt. It’s true that many people have a preference for alkaline drinking water for various reasons, but this should not be confused with actual scientific evidence.

Vitev Alkaline Pitcher Review: Our Verdict + Best for

All in all, we don’t really recommend the Vitev Alkaline Pitcher if you’re looking for something with good contaminant reduction capabilities. Only get this if you specifically enjoy alkaline drinking water and don’t care about contaminants that much, other than maybe improving the smell and taste of your water. But even then, we find the pitcher quite expensive when compared to the competition which we also consider more effective. If you can, you should look somewhere else.

The Seychelle Gen 2 Dual pH2O is a particularly good choice if you’re looking for an alkaline water filter pitcher and insist on that feature. It can raise your water’s pH level to up to 9.5 with the use of mineralization, and it uses an ion exchange resin and activated carbon for the actual filtration. The pitcher has been tested against NSF standards 42 and 53, and it can deal with the following contaminants, among others:

  • VOCs: 99.8%
  • PFOA and PFOS: 98-99%
  • Chlorine: 90.91%
  • Arsenic: ~90%
  • Aluminum: ~95%
  • Chromium: 95-96%
  • Lead: 93.5-96%
  • Fluoride: 98.6%
  • Nitrate: 97.7%
  • Nitrite: 85.5%

The maintenance requirements of this model are very low as well, with cartridges lasting for up to 150 gallons of water. The pitcher is made of non-BPA plastics in the USA. However, it’s expensive to maintain. It also only has a 90-day warranty. Some users have reported issues with cartridges clogging up as well.

If you don’t actually insist on using an alkaline pitcher, you should also check out the Clearly Filtered. It has extensive testing and verification, and a very responsible attitude by the manufacturer. It has been tested against NSF standards 42, 53, and 401, and can remove a long list of contaminants – more than 300, in fact. Some of those include:

  • Chlorine/chloramine
  • DBPs
  • Lead
  • Chromium-6
  • Arsenic
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Pesticides
  • VOCs
  • Semi-volatile compounds
  • PFAS
  • Fluoride
  • Radiologicals

Filtration is done with the use of GAC and proprietary filtration media – together, these work very effectively against the contaminants listed above and many others. Each cartridge lasts for about 100 gallons of water or 4 months, and the pitcher can hold 17 cups total.

The overall design is sleek and intuitive, with a convenient lid that aids in refilling. No BPA materials are used in the production process – speaking on which, it happens entirely in the USA. You get a limited lifetime warranty, and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

The Clearly Filtered is hands down the best of the three when it comes to contaminant removal or reduction. If you insist on an alkaline pitcher, we say get the Seychelle. We don’t really recommend the Vitev Alkaline Pitcher unless it’s your only available option.
